Mr. Ruzanski: I was invited to Monkey Moon by an old acquaintance …I say, this is an odd group. What ten students I dare say…or is it nine and one teacher? Or no seven students, one teacher and butler and maid?
Mrs. Sandwich: Why I got a letter from an old school friend inviting me here as well. We were suppose to learn Hebrew with Mrs. Oliver.
Esther: I was employed by Mrs. Una Owen as a secretary….this is the letter. But this is strange that Mrs. Una Owen isn’t here…
The group of guests slowly enter the salon after a sumptuous dinner.
Mrs. Sandwich: I’ve never met anyone by the name of Owen in my life! This is strange. It almost sounds like Mrs. Noone…hum.
Ms. Amber: (enters the room happily as she has a glass of vodka) How strange, the decorations of ten monkeys on the dinning-room table, the odd poem in the bedrooms. Now, there’s music left on the piano of Ten Monkeys: a song.
Mr. Josh Glaberot: (the famous playboy and pianist sits down at the piano and starts to play)

All of a sudden a disembodied voice speaks out in Hebrew, translation as follows:

You are all hereby charged with the following indictments: Dr. Charles Weakped,Ms. Esther Florence, Ms. Amber, Mr. Josh Glaberot, General Harvey Perez, Mrs. Sandwich, Mrs. Hana Rugberg, Mr. Fritz Rugberg, Mr. Ruzansky, Mr. Fred Lombard …that you all for the past five months are guilty of murdering the Hebrew language.
(the voice stops)
There was silence and then a crash, Mr. Rugberg drops the tea tray! At the same moment, outside the room there came a scream and the sound of a thud. Poor Mrs. Rugberg has fainted…

The Dr. and Mr. Fred found the C. D. player in the closet….”who put this on?” someone shouts.Mr. Rugberg: I was told, after dinner and tea and coffee are served to put on the disc “Swan Song” in the letter I received.

But, this is fantastic!”
Ms. Amber: (she is seated comfortably) she puts up her hand and calms the group.
I wish to say this, Our Unknown friend accuses us of murdering Hebrew….well, I remember perfectly well that I’m Israeli, yet I’ve been so tired lately that one day I taught the class words about sleeping, tired and rest and the next day half the class deserted me. She started crying into her hanky.
Mrs. Rugberg: whispering to her husband, “I remember that day, she just didn’t seem to care and she was bored and we had been forced to switch teachers….we conjugated sleepy words for hours, shocking.”
Esther: “I must confess coming from Nigeria…I have an accent.”
General Perez, “There there my dear, Mr. U.N.Known’s a mad man. He barked, “ No truth what-so-ever…I just don’t know Hebrew very well.”
Fred: His eyes amused, “About Hebrew…I was born in Israel, and left as a baby and lived in the U.S. Where we speak English….self preservation is a man’s first duty.”
Josh: has a slow puzzled voice,”I’d like to attend a more intense class starting up next week.”
Dr. Charles: “Zis speedy five days a week is too fast for me, I must have my croissant with cafe-ole in za morning!”

Mr. Rugberg: “On behalf of Mrs. Rugberg I’d like to say” his lips twitchy, “she has a Russian accent but wondered if she needs to see a doctor? I try and learn using fancy gadgets…language pods.”
Fred: remembering how his lips twitched…he thought but didn’t say, “Oh Yea?”
Mrs. Sandwich: spoke up, “See a doctor? Why not an accent reducer?”
Ms. Amber: she stirs, “What about you Mrs. Sandwich?”
Mrs. Sandwich: “What about me?”
Ms. Amber: “Your name was included in the list.”
Mrs. Sandwich: She puffed up,” I’m a medical wonder of this era and I….I’m guilty of having liposuction two years ago, but other than that….I was born with fish lips.”
Fred: he laughs,” what a bunch of weirdos…..except myself.”
Josh: leaned against the piano and was staring at his cocktail.
Mr. Rusanski: “I’d like some vodka” in a thick accent. “I don’t really care.”
Ms. Amber: speaks up,”I’m not clear as to the purpose of our Unknown host in getting us to assemble here…but they must be insane. He may be dangerous and we must leave Monkey Moon as soon as possible.”
Mrs. Rugberg: she stands and looks at Dr. Charles,”do you have a sedative, I need to go to sleep.”

Josh: he speaks while lifting his glass,”I’m all for Murdering the Hebrew Language! Here’s to crime, here’s to it!” He picked up his drink and drank it in one gulp. He chokes badly and his face contorts. He slides down next to the piano, the glass falls. It was sudden and unexpected.
Dr. Charles: He goes over to him and says in a low awe-struck whisper, “Mon Du! My God! He’s dead. It’s poison in ze drink!”
Esther: “You think he commit suicide? Why I’d just rather drop out or switch classes….a bit sever, wasn’t he.
Mr. Rugberg: Later that evening he notices the dinning-room table, “Only nine monkeys. That’s a rum go! I could have sworn there were ten of them!”

Chapter 2

Introduction:
My dear reader, we left off with the death of Mr. Josh Glaberot, International playboy and famous pianist, and then later Mr. Rugberg noticing one tiny statue of a monkey that was missing from the dinning-room table.
Dr Weakped and Fred Lombard carry the inert body of Josh Glaberot to his bedroom and cover it with a sheet. They all agree to go to bed, it was past midnight.
General Perez: Sleep wouldn’t come to General Perez and he kept tossing and turning…remembering how he found excuse after excuse to not practice studying Hebrew. He could see it all now, all too clearly, he’d realized he was just lazy! Only through a miracle could he expect to learn his verbs. He tried to get by just using English and avoided speaking in Hebrew while living in Israel….and now, he just needed a stiff upper lip. He thought about how Mrs. Sandwich was so intelligent, how could anyone blame her of murdering Hebrew…
Esther: She lay awake staring at the ceiling…why can’t I remember any verbs in Hebrew? She didn’t want to whine anymore about it all. She thought of how Mr. Josh had killed himself, if I were going to kill myself, I’d take an overdose of something strong with lots of whiskey …not cyanide! Then she looked at the Monkey poem on the mantel. Ten little monkeys went out to dine, one choked his little self and then there were nine.
Dr. Weakped: He dreamt he’d had a nightmare and woke up to…..
Mr. Rugberg: “It’s the wife doctor….I can’t get her to wake. She doesn’t look right!”
They both went downstairs, the doctor examined her.
Dr Weakped: “She’s gone.” “Was she sickly? Ever need sleeping pills? Was she under a doctor’s care?”
Mr. Rugberg: “She had problems sleeping but never took any medicine before but what you gave her last night.”

General Perez and Ms. Amber were discussing comments about politics of the Middle East in the terrace on the lower level.
The Gong Sounded for breakfast…..30 minutes later

Esther and Fred had walked around the back of the space station and discovered Mr. Ruzansky starring at the planet Earth through the window.
Mr. Ruzansky: “No sign of the shuttle craft, I’ve been watching for it….
They all went inside for breakfast….
Mr. Ruzansky: looking at Fred and he spoke up, “You know it beats me why that young fellow killed himself”
Fred: “Got any theories?”
Mr. Ruzansky: “We need a motive you see.”
Ms. Amber: “Any sign of the shuttle and why does the Butler look so ill?”

Mr. Rugberg: “You must excuse the breakfast, you see my wife….”
Ms. Amber: “What’s wrong with her?”
Dr. Weakped: “Let’s have our eggs and then later we can discuss matters with you all.”
The group discussed current events and sports and Space travel.
Dr. Weakped: “I thought we would wait until you’ve had breakfast as a sad piece of news….
Mrs. Rugberg died in her sleep.”
Mrs. Sandwich: “How awful a second death since we arrived!”
Ms. Amber: “Very remarkable…what was the cause of death?”
Esther: “her conscious, she never studied for class.”
Dr. Weakped: “You actually think that?”
Esther: “I call it an act of God.”

Everyone was shocked
Mr. Ruzansky: “Maybe Rugberg killed his ol lady, thought she’d spill the beans about how she didn’t care she had an accent. Then he got rid of the evidence before asking for the doctor.”
General Perez: “I should hardly think a man would do that to his wife.”
Mr. Ruzansky: gave a short laugh
Mr. Rugberg: he comes in, “I don’t know why but there’s no shuttle in today with food from Earth….I’m sorry we ran out of bread.”
General Perez: “Sorry to hear about your wife Rugberg, Dr. just told us.”
They all went into the salon
Fred Lombard: “Why hasn’t the shuttle come?”
General Perez: “Don’t you see….the shuttle will never come….we’re not going to leave Monkey Moon….none of us….it’s the end of everything….”
Yes, no more memorization, verbs, nouns, just peace….real peace….”
Mr. Ruzansky: “He’s balmy! Looks like everyone will go that way too.”
Fred Lombard: “I don’t fancy you will.”
Mr. Rugberg: “May I have a word with you Dr. Weakped?”
Doctor follows Mr. Rugberg in the other room
Mr. Rugberg: (face looks gray) “There’s something I don’t understand….it’s those china figurines Sir, there was 10 last night and now Sir there’s 8….only 8!”

Chapter 3 Ulpan at Monkey Moon
After Breakfast- Dear reader, we left our little group with first Mr. Josh Glaberot and then Mrs. Rugberg suddenly dead within one day of their arrival on Monkey Moon. Mrs. Sandwich suggested to Esther they go for a walk in the greenhouse together.
Mrs. Sandwich: “The man that brought us here seemed a dependable sort of person…it’s odd that he not come back with supplies in his shuttle craft.” Esther felt rising feeling of panic..”You must keep cool, you’ve always had excellent nerves,” she said to herself, and out loud,” I want to get away!”
Mrs. Sandwich: “I’ve no doubt we all do.”
Esther: “Do you really think Rugberg and his wife killed the Hebrew language?”
Mrs. Sandwich: “Personally I am quite sure of it. Remember how he dropped the tea tray and his wife fainted. Naturally considering everything I wasn’t going to tell everyone last night how frustrated I was in Hebrew class that I was throwing spit balls at the teacher when she’d write on the board. I never dreamt anyone would find out. I believe it was the teacher’s own fault for being so boring.” Suddenly Esther thought Mrs. Sandwich was terrible.
Dr. Weakped asked Lombard,”Can I speak to you for a minute?” The two men strolled by the view port….”What do you think about our situation here Lombard?”
Lombard reflected,” About the Rugbergs? I think Mrs. Rugberg probably couldn’t take coming to class anymore…it was too hard and she couldn’t pronounce the words right.” Then he thought to himself “The Doc, all he cares about is eating croissants during break time.”

Lombard: “You know I just can’t believe in 2 suicides happening within 24 hours.”
Dr. Weakped, “I believe Mr. Glaberot was murdered of course. And then 2 of the monkey china figures were gone after-wards. The first Monkey choked himself…the second Monkey overslept.” The Doctor, Mr. Ruzansky and Lombard started to search the moon station to see if anyone was hiding about. They saw General Perez sitting in a rocking chair staring out the window.
General Perez, “There’s no time to study….so little time. Please go away.” The three of them looked at each other….
Mr. Weakped,”Even if we sent signals, for help…others may not respond until Mr. UnKnown murders all his guests!” “And I was wondering how mad our old General was…”
Esther looked at Mrs. Sandwich smugly knitting…in her mind she saw her throwing spit balls at the teacher. Then she looked at Ms. Amber imagining her teaching and yet just telling the class to do the exercises in the book by themselves while she ate ice cream in the teacher’s lounge.

Esther walked up to the General as he stared at her and then said gently, “It’s a pleasant place to wait.” Esther: “To wait?”
General Perez: “Yes, We’re all waiting for the end.”
Esther’s eyes bugged out, “What do you mean?”
General Perez: “None of us are going to leave this Moon. I loved Hebrew, but I couldn’t conjugate the verbs, I couldn’t remember the words….I suppose I should have used flash cards, it was murder in a way…I’ve no regrets.” Lombard, Ruzansky and the Doctor were discussing who could be the killer….Lombard admitting having a gun in his coat.
Lombard: “I was asked to come here by Mr. UnKnown’s lawyer and was given 3500 shekels to come here and keep my eyes open, I was bated and trapped like the rest of you.”

The Gong pealed a solemn call to lunch
Mr. Rugberg: “I have cold sandwiches and we have lots of food stored here in case we’re marooned for a while.”
Lombard: “Sounds alright.”
Ms. Amber: gave quick looks at everyone coming into the dining room….said,”You have had an active morning!” A faint malicious pleasure in her voice.
Mrs. Sandwich spoke, “The General isn’t here.”
Dr. Weakped: “I’ll go get General, you others start lunch.” Five people found conversation difficult and looked at the star storm outside the window.
Rugberg spoke up, “There’s somebody running.”

Dr. Weakped: breathing fast, “The General”.
Mrs. Sandwich: “Dead!”
Dr. Weakped, “Yes, he’s dead.” There was a pause….seven people looked at each other. Mr. Ruzansky and Dr. Weakped bore the body upstairs and then Mrs. Sandwich went to the dining room table, Rugberg followed her. He looked startled, “Oh Miss, I just came to see…”
Mrs. Sandwich, “You’re quite right…look for yourself…there’s only seven Monkeys on the table.”

 Ulpan at Monkey Moon

Chapter 4

We last left our marooned guests in the living room after discovering General Perez’s body. Dr. Weakped and Mr. Rugberg carry the General’s body upstairs to his bedroom. Mrs. Sandwich is knitting on a chair. Esther stands by the window. Mr. Rusanski hands on his knees and Lombard paces across the room. Ms. Amber is seated at the big cushy chair with her eyes half closed like a turtle. The Doctor pronounces that the General was stabbed and his mouth was stuffed with gummy bears.
Ms. Amber: “Did you find the actual weapon?”
Dr. Weakped: “No”
Ms. Amber who was long use to commanding the classrooms took over: “This morning gentlemen whilst I was eating ice cream, I observed you all were searching the Moon’s space station for an unknown murderer?”
Lombard: “Quite right.”
Ms. Amber: “You doubtless have come to the conclusion that these 3 deaths were not suicides and you’ve reached the conclusion as to the purpose of Mr. Owen in enticing us to this moon. We must save ourselves.”
Dr. Weakped: “There’s no one on the Moon!”
Ms. Amber: “I have come to the conclusion early this morning but I believe that Mr. Owen is one of us.”
Esther: “No, no, no” eyes rolling.
Mr. Rusanski: “I believe you are correct.”
Mrs. Sandwich: “One of us is possessed by the Devil!”

 Page 2:
Ms. Amber:  “Now let us examine the evidence ..is there any reason to suspect any particular person?”
Mr. Rusanski:  “Mr. Lombard has a revolver!”
Mr. Lombard:  Smiles scornfully, “I was hired by Mr. Owen and told to bring my gun and was fooled like the rest of you.”
Mr. Rusanski:  “What’s to prove your story?”
Ms. Amber:  “We are all in that position.   Is there anyone we can eliminate on the evidence in our possession?
Dr. Weakped:  “I am a professional man.”
Ms. Amber:  “I too am a professional, it proves nothing, doctors, policemen, even teachers have all gone mad, yes even women!”
Everyone was shocked
Esther:  “I think you’re mad!”
Ms. Amber looked at Esther as if she were a worm in a jar.
Mr. Lombard:  “We can rule out Rugberg, he hasn’t got the brains and his wife was one of the victims.
Ms. Amber:  “Many men have been accused of murdering their wives and been found guilty.”

Mr. Lombard:  “Yeah, but I don’t see him starting all this up and then beginning with his wife, he could have just quit coming to Ulpan class.  Hum, anyone could have slipped drugs into Josh’s glass, Now Mrs. Rugberg could have been poisoned by the Doc or her husband.
Dr. Weakped:  “I protest, I gave her sleeping pills.”They all discussed each others whereabouts for the past afternoon to see if any had an alibi yet there were holes in time for each one in which they all had the opportunity for murder.
Ms. Amber:  “We must be all alert that from now on, our task is to suspect each other, take no risks and be alert to danger, that is all.”
Mr. Lombard:  “Class dismissed” he whispered.Esther and Fred Lombard go for a walk down the corridor.
Esther:  “Who do you think is the murderer?”
Mr. Lombard:  “Well assuming we eliminate ourselves…you seem alright to me even though you have an accent.”
Esther:  “Murdering indiscriminately doesn’t seem in your line of work.”

 Page 4:
Mr. Lombard:  “I think Ms. Amber did it, just the next step a crazy teacher would take, she didn’t like her job anyway, why not get rid of all her students and sit around and eat ice cream all day.”
Esther:  “That’s an idea. But what about the doctor?”
Mr. Lombard: “The doc?  I don’t think so, he eats too much bread and yeast products dulls the mind.  Now if he ate Twinkies that would be something….he never could make decent sentences.”Mr. Rugberg:  “Who is it Mr. Rusanski?”
Mr. Rusanski:  “That’s the question!”
Mr. Rugberg: “One of us Ms. Amber said…you got any ideas?”Dr. Weakped:  “We must get out of here!”
Ms. Amber:  “Looking at the Star Storm outside, it looks unlikely that the supply shuttle will reach us, until the cosmic wind drops.”
Dr. Weakped:  “We may be murdered in our beds!”
Ms. Amber:  these doctors think in cliches, such a commonplace mind he has, she thought.
Dr. Weakped:  “Who can the murderer be?”
Ms. Amber:  “It appears to me that one person is sufficiently clearly indicated, yes I think so.”
Dr. Weakped:  staring at Ms. Amber, “I don’t understand.”

The Star Storm increased outside and after dinner, tea and cookies everyone went to bed, bolting their own doors. In the late morning, it was way past breakfast time before they all found Mr. Rugberg in the kitchen with a chopper blade in his head.Esther: she shouts, “Look!” and was staring at the 6 little china monkeys on the table, the 7th was smashed. She started to laugh maniacally, a hysterical laugh, “do they keep bees on Monkey Moon? How do you say bee in Hebrew?”
Dr. Weakped: Steps over to Esther and slaps her to bring her to her senses.
Esther: “Thank you, I needed that.” she steps away with a red hand mark on her face.
Dr. Weakped: “don’t mention it.”

Chapter 5
We last left our remaining 6 friends putting the body of the butler, Mr. Rugberg into his bedroom and carefully placing a sheet over his body.
Mr. Lombard and Mr. Rusanski were taking a walk along the space station corridors.
Mr. Lombard: “You know what I’m thinking?”
Mr. Rusanski: “As you’re just about to tell me, it’s not worth the trouble of guessing.”
Mr. Lombard: “I was just thinking of the Lizzy Bordon case, the daughter probably did it with an ax, killed her parents. She went mad, but seemed cool and collected.”
Mr. Rusanski: “I don’t think it was Esther.”
Mr. Lombard: “No, but what about Ms. Sandwich, she’s a cool one, gone manic cause she can’t adjust , it’s culture shock it is. Now, I’m young and will probably learn some Hebrew eventually so it couldn’t be me.
Mr. Rusanski: “I just have an accent problem, but it’s funny in class most of us all spoke in English, except one German. Why can’t Israelis just change their language? You think we’re all going to die?”
Mr. Lombard: “Well you haven’t much of an imagination for it, but I think I have a chance.”

Chapter 5 Page 2
Esther was in the kitchen with Mrs. Sandwich trying to make brunch. She was saying to herself, “Why can’t I just not get hysterical?” She started thinking about how she couldn’t remember any words in Hebrew and had been dreading going to class each morning getting later and later. The eggs were burning.
Mrs. Sandwich: “The eggs!”
Esther: “Sorry Mrs. Sandwich, how stupid of me, are you afraid of kicking the bucket Mrs. Sandwich?”
It was as if a gimlet ran into the solid congealed mass of Mrs. Sandwich’s brain. “What a thought, no one in her family were afraid of death or even of quitting Ulpan. She started thinking of how she kept mixing up the nouns….
Esther looked at her funny, “I guess we should serve the brunch.”
Everyone was very polite at the table but their thoughts raced like squirrels in the trees…Who was the murderer?
Esther got up to clean the dishes and Mrs. Sandwich complained.
Mrs. Sandwich: “I’d help you but I feel quit dizzy.”

Dr. Weakped: “Would you like a sedative?”
Mrs. Sandwich: “NO” a bit loudly.
Dr. Weakped blushed: “Well.”
Mrs. Sandwich: “I think I’ll just relax on the chair.”
Mr. Rusanski: “I’ll help with the dishes, I don’t mind Esther.”
Mrs. Sandwich was relaxing and dozing in the dinning room, she then heard a bee buzzing in the window, she was half asleep and felt a pin prick in her neck.

They were all waiting for Mrs. Sandwich in the living room

Mr. Rusanski: “I think the woman, Mrs. Sandwich is the one we’re after.”
Dr. Weakped: “and the motive?”
Mr. Rosanski: “She’s a New Yorker and we all know they’re all nuts.”

Esther: “She did seem odd in the kitchen.”
Mr. Rusanski: “You see?”
Esther: “She confided in me when she counted in Hebrew that she kept forgetting what 3 was.”
Ms. Amber: “Did she have guilt feelings or a feeling of remorse?”
Esther: “Why, no.”
Ms. Amber: “Let us go into the dinning room.”

They went into the dinning room to find Mrs. Sandwich’s face was puffy, lips blue and she was dead.

Curtain falls and Mrs. Sandwich is crossed out.

Chapter 6
There were five left out of ten of the original guests, Mrs. Sandwich had just been poisoned in the dinning room.
Dr. Weakped looked at Mrs. Sandwich’s neck, “That’s the mark of a syringe.”
Esther: “Look a bee! A bee in the window!”
Dr. Weakped: “Looks like potassium cyanide, same as Josh Glaberot.”
Esther: “But the bee!”
Mr. Lombard: “That’s just the murder’s artistic sense of humor. The nursery rhyme”
Ms. Amber: “Who has a syringe?”
Dr. Weakped: “I do, in my suitcase.”
They all went to look in his suitcase upstairs and found it was missing from the room.

Dr. Weakped: “Someone must have taken it.”
All four pairs of eyes were on Dr. Weakped.
Dr. Weakped: “I tell you someone must have taken it.”
Ms. Amber: “There are five of us in the room, one of us is a murderer. What medicine do you have?”
Dr. Weakped: “Just some sleeping pills, Tylenol, Pepto Bismo, and hemorrhoid pads.”
Ms. Amber: “Mr. Lombard you have a revolver, we should lock it away with all the medication to prevent any further deaths.”
Mr. Lombard: “I ain’t giving up my gun.”
Ms. Amber: “Look, when the shuttle comes for us, you can have it right back.”
Mr. Lombard: “Well, alright, I believe you.”

However it wasn’t in his drawer upstairs where he had left it last.

Ms. Amber: “I’m going to have to ask you men to take your clothes off to make sure the gun isn’t on you.”
Dr. Weakped: “I can’t believe it’s come to this Ms. Amber, you’re acting like a TSA screener!”
Mrs. Amber: “We must all look through each others rooms to make sure all medicines and weapons are locked up, first put in a locked chest and then in a locked closet. I’m giving you Lombard one key and the other key to Mr. Rusanski. That should be safe enough. As to the gun it seems to be missing.”

They searched high and low and couldn’t find it.

Five frightened people were left. They appeared almost like animals. Ms. Amber was watching, her eyes darting back and forth like a turtle.

Chapter 6 Page 4
Esther became almost as a stunned frightened bird.
Mr. Lombard appeared as a snarling wolf. Dr. Weakped was a jangle of twitching nerves while Mr. Rusanski was coarser and appeared to be a slow padding animal. Throughout the day they all stayed together unless one left by themselves for some reason and came back. They ate together from canned goods from the pantry, sat together in the living room. Esther was staring at the doctor. At 5:00 pm she announced she would make them all tea.
Ms. Amber: “We should all like to watch you make it, just in case.”
They all went into the kitchen and watched her make tea and brought it out in the dinning room.

Esther: “I’m going to my room.” the lights suddenly went out.
Mr. Rusanski: “The generator must have gone dead, there’s no electricity.”
Ms. Amber: “We can use candles, I saw some in the kitchen pantry.”
Esther lit a candle and went upstairs, she heard a screech as she entered her room. She screems! All the men follow to her and help her up from the dead faint.
Dr. Weakped: “You stepped on the cat’s tail my dear. Um, where’s Ms. Amber?”
Mr. Lombard: “Didn’t she follow you?”
Mr. Rusanski: “Lets go downstairs.

They found Ms. Amber on the chair a red mark on her forehead. She was in a black robe and had a white wig on her head like a judge.

Dr. Weakped: pronounced, “She’s dead”

Esther: “the nursery rhyme Five little monkeys going in for law, one got in the Knesset and then there were four.”
Mr. Lombard: “That’s the last class for Ms. Amber, no more teaching Ulpan for her.”
Esther: “Only this morning you thought she was the murderer!”
Mr. Lombard: “Guess I was wrong.” They carried her up to her room and put a sheet over her. (You can see her winking and putting a finger up to her mouth, “shhh”). Curtain falls and Ms. Amber is crossed out.

Chapter 7
We last found our remaining four friends, frightened at Ms. Amber shot to death in the night, they each have yet to spend another night at Monkey Moon.
Mr. Rusanski: “What do we do now?”
Lombard: “Let’s eat canned tuna, they all went back into the kitchen, ate tuna and stared at each other.
Dr. Weakped: “We must all be very careful.”
Mr. Rusanski: Nodded.
Dr. Weakped: “That’s what she said and now she’s dead!” Three men stared at each other.
Lombard: “A dang clever double-cross. Esther screamed and everyone thinks she was murdered and so, in confusion someone caught the ole girl off guard.
Mr. Rusanski: “Why didn’t anyone hear the shot?”
Lombard: “Shakes his head.”
Dr. Weakped: “All that screaming, er…Four of us and we don’t know which one.”
Mr. Rusanski: “I know.” he looks at Fred.
Esther: “I haven’t a doubt.” looks at the doctor.
Dr. Weakped: “I suppose I do know really.” looks at Lombard.

Lombard:” I think I got a pretty good idea now.” looks at the doctor.
Esther: I’m going to bed. They all turned to go inside.
Lombard: “I wonder where my gun is now.”
Esther lay in bed, she’d practiced reciting her verbs, first person, you masculine, you feminine, they masculine, they feminine, and argh! I don’t care anymore, can’t do it. I should quit class if I get through all this, teacher is dead anyway. She looked up and saw a large hook on the ceiling.
Mr. Rusanski: he sat on the bed and couldn’t seem to sleep, six out of ten all dead and wondered where the gun was now.

Chapter 7 Page 3
The next morning, the Star Storm had quieted down and Dr. Weakped was missing from his room. In the dinning room only three china monkeys were on the table. Esther found Lombard and Rusanski had combed the space station of Monkey Moon already, they each glared at the other thinking each was a murderer.
Lombard: “ I found my gun last night when I went into my room. I didn’t murder anyone.”
Mr. Rusanski: “If you’re telling the truth you should lock the gun away.”
Lombard: “Don’t be a jerk.”
Mr. Rusanski: “We are bound to come to one conclusion.”
Esther: “You’ve forgotten the nursery rhyme. Four little monkeys going out to sea a red herring swallowed one and then there were three.” The red herring, don’t you see, Dr. Weakped isn’t really dead, he’s hiding! Don’t you see, he’s mad!” It’s all mad! Aleph, Bet, Gimmel, Dalet…Dressing Ms. Amber, killing Rugberg with a chopper blade, drugging Mrs. Rugberg so she overslept, arranging for a bee when Mrs. Sandwich died! Some horrible child playing a game. It’s all got to fit.”

Mr. Rusanski: “At least there’s no zoo.”
Esther: “Don’t you see, We’re the zoo! We’re not human anymore.”
They spent the morning trying to signal Earth in Morse Code in the observation deck. There was still no trace of Dr. Weakped. The three were all waiting in the green house on folding chairs.
Mr. Rusanski: “I need to eat some lunch”
Esther: “I’m staying here, I don’t want to go back in the dinning room.”
Lombard: “I’m staying here too.

Mr. Rusanski: “We agreed to stick together.”
Lombard: “You’re the one that wants to eat.”
Esther: “I’m not hungry at all.”
Lombard: “It’s silly, I could just shoot you both.”
Rusanski: “But you need to stick to the nursery rhyme.”
Lombard: “You seem to know all about it.”
Rusanski went off to eat in the main house.
Lombard: “Feeding time at the zoo.”
Esther: “Don’t you feel someone’s watching and waiting? I think Dr. Weakped is still alive. Or else Aliens are punishing us all for coming out into space.”

They hear a huge crash

Lombard: “I don’t know, but I need to go back to the main station and find out.”
They found Rusanski, his head crushed by a marble clock shaped like a bear.

Fred Lombard grasped Esther’s shoulder.

Curtain comes down and Mr. Rusanski is crossed off.

Lombard: Dr. Weakped must be hiding somewhere.
Esther: “Don’t leave, he’ll get us next!” He wants us to look for him.”
Lombard: “There’s something in that.”
Esther: “You admit I was right, it was the doctor all along, he’s mad, he’s mad I tell you, it’s from trying to learn the future tense.”

They decided to stay in the glass green house.

Lombard: “What’s that?”
Esther: “Where?”
Lombard: “It’s Weakped!” He was dead, his body was in the fish pond by the water lilies.
Curtain comes down and Dr. Weakped is crossed off.

Two people were now left alone in the green house, terrified.

Esther: “How was it worked? That trick with the bear?”
Lombard: “Conjuring trick.”
Esther: (thinks, why had I never noticed that he resembles a wolf!) she looks down at poor Dr. Weakped’s body, “Poor Dr. Weakped.”
Lombard: “What’s this, pity?”
Esther: “Don’t you have any pity?”
Lombard: “Not for you, don’t expect it.”

Esther: frightened she says,” We must put his body away from the water, come help me.” they both tugged and pulled and she grabbed his gun.
She moved a yard or two and was facing him, revolver in hand.
Lombard: “Look here, give me the gun! He lunged at her and she fired the gun. Lombard dropped dead.
Esther felt relief. It was over.
Curtain falls down and Mr. Lombard is crossed off.

Chapter 10
We left Esther all alone on Monkey Moon with nine dead bodies. “How Nice”
No more fear, no more Hebrew classes. She walked towards the space station house wanting to go to her room and sleep believing the shuttle would arrive tomorrow. She saw three monkeys on the table, she smashed two and picked up the last one. She walked upstairs to her room and found a rope with a hangman’s noose hanging from the ceiling hook.
Esther was all unhinged at this point and this is one way to not deal with all the stress of Ulpan. I should just hang myself….
Director: CUT!!!!
A swishy Hollywood director comes on stage, “No that’s no good, too depressing.” He looks at Esther,”Let’s change this, you meet Ms. Amber downstairs

Director continues:
who tells you she’ll give you private tutoring lessons in Hebrew. She was the Red Herring after all.”
Esther sees Ms. Amber and screams loudly, :”She’s alive!” Poor Fred, I’ve killed Fred for nothing!”
Director: “Esther, you could always move back to Los Angeles and become a movie star.”
Ms. Amber: “It’s been done before, or I could tutor you.”
Agatha Christie’s ghost: “No, no, no everyone dies and the police can’t make out what happened. It was Ms. Amber all the time, she was a sadist Teacher that loved to inflict foreign languages on her students, she took her worst class to date and murdered them all one by one and then took poison in the end, don’t you see?”
Director: “Absurd.”
Esther: “Preposterous, well I’m not going to die for your stupid play.”

Director: “I still don’t like this ending. How about everyone comes back to life at the end and starts dancing the Hora, it’s just a movie.”
Agatha Christie’s ghost: “Well, I did have another ending in mind for Monkey Moon and I’ve changed the ending before, I’ve even changed the book’s title before three times, but I lost the piece of paper I had in my desk with the ending on it.”
Director: “You mean you don’t know how the story ends?”
Agatha Christie’s ghost: “Yes, I’m afraid that’s so”, giggles.
Director: “Crud.”
Esther: “That’s absolutely stupid.”
Ms. Amber: “No, it’s just senility.”
